HIGH SCHOOL TEACHING SERIES

February 21, 2012

We have started a 3 week teaching series with the somewhat intimidating title of “Curse God and Die”. I feel like this should be followed by a lightning bolt and thunder crash every time I say it! This title actually comes from the “advice” that Job’s wife gave him during his testing. This study will be a study of the Biblical book of Job and broken down to the following emphasis:

Week 1 – Don’t give up on God

Week 2 – Don’t give up on people

Week 3 – Don’t give up on yourself (in your faith journey)

Some questions to ask at home:

1) What did you learn from the story of Job week?

2) What one thing challenged or stuck out to you this week?

3) Are there any trials or tests you feel you are going through this week that we as a family can help you with?

FUSION 2011

November 7, 2011

Our high school fall retreat, Fusion, is here once again!  This event is always a great spiritual retreat for our students, and this year’s event is sure to be one of the best with Scott Monette speaking and The Jordan Howerton Band leading us in worship.  If your son or daughter is registered to go with us, please be sure they are at the church, packed, fed, and ready to go by 5:45 on Friday so we can leave by 6pm.  They need money for 4 meals, and items needed for 2 nights in a hotel with them.

We will be starting our new Imagine series this next week in both Modified and The Flood!  I can’t wait to teach through this series on what our lives could look like if we could imagine them as being Christ-centered.

We will be having Modified Sunday Night, September 4th!  We will be meeting outside behind the farmhouse to play football, volleyball, have worship, and have a bonfire with smores!

IMAGINE TEACHING SERIES

August 29, 2011

This fall both The Flood and Modified will be teaching through a series along with the entire church we are calling “Imagine”.   Each week the Middle School and High School groups will be studying the same Scripture and Biblical point that the church as a whole will be studying on Sunday morning, just altered to directly communicate with them in an appropriate way for your student in their unique place in life.  This series will take a look at what we can imagine our lives to be like if Christ was at the center.  We are going to imagine a Christ-centered life at school, within the family, among friends, in the area of money and contentment, and every aspect of a person’s life.

This Sunday night, August 21st at 6pm, we will be having an all-ages prayer and worship event at South Lansing Christian Church.  Please come as a family and join us as we seek God for direction for this upcoming school year. Do to this special event, we will not be having Modified at the regular 7pm time, Modified will be participating in this prayer event.

What we now know is that teenagers pretty much follow in the faith footsteps of their parents.  If parents are following Jesus, there’s a good to excellent chance their kids will follow Jesus too.  If they aren’t, they won’t.  There are no guarantees, of course, but parents function as the spiritual leaders in their home whether they want to or not. That’s their role, given to them by God.          - Wayne Rice

Words cannot express the impact that Matt and Carrie Hamel have had on the lives of countless students through their faithful service in the youth ministry of South Lansing Christian Church.  They have been a faithful example of servant leadership, faithful devotion, and Christian marriage to generations of students.  This past Sunday at Modified we celebrated and thanked the Hamel’s for who they are to us.  Due to some family health issues and an ever increasing work schedule, the Hamel’s are stepping down from serving as volunteers in the youth ministry for the time being.  If you know this family, please join us in showing your gratitude to them!  We cannot wait until they are able to rejoin our team of volunteers sometime in the hopefully not too distant future.

June 15, 2011

Our High School youth group, Modified, and our High School volunteer staff would like to welcome our current 8th graders to the next level!  As of Saturday June 18th, you will no longer be a part of The Flood Middle school group, but joining the ranks of our high schoolers in Modified!

To welcome you, we want to invite you to an event designed just for you!  We will start the day with just Freshmen and volunteers in a Film Fest competition to see who can create the best movie in just a few short hours.  This will be followed by a pool party at Chad’s house (4140 Turnbridge Dr Holt, MI) with the entire high school youth group there to meet you and welcome you into the group!

Can’t wait for this event!

Faith. Hope. Love.
